Get Involved in 2015!

This year PETNS launched our Parental Involvement Programme with the aim of improving learning for all children through increased parental involvement in the daily life of the school.

Last term we had parents in the school helping with a wide variety of activities such as running after-school clubs, aistear, the Green Schools Committee, giving talks/ demonstrations. We are extremely grateful to the parents who generously gave up their time and shared their skills with us. All children benefitted enormously from this help.

We would love to see even more parents getting involved in the New Year. Examples of areas that we would appreciate parental assistance with include helping class teachers with the delivery of the play based curriculum in the infant classes (aistear), group and project work in all classes, delivering after-school clubs for children from 1st -6th class, and helping with one off events such as art projects or the school sports’ day. Parent volunteers will not be left in a position where they are delivering an activity without a teacher who will remain responsible for the children at all times.

If you would like to become involved in our Parental Involvement Programme, please fill out the parental involvement interest form which is available from the school office. Alternatively the form can be completed online by clicking on the Parental Involvement tab on the school website

If you have any queries or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact or call into the office to make an appointment to speak with Kay Morrissey, this year’s programme coordinator.

You can also find more information on the school’s Parental Involvement Programme, as well as tip sheets on helping your child with their learning on the parents’ notice board which is located in the school foyer.

We look forward to working with you in the coming weeks and welcome all involvement no matter how great or small.

Kind Regards,

Kay Morrissey

Parent Help Needed For Aistear

Aistear is a play based curriculum in the infant classes. The children play in small groups at different activities which are based around a common theme for example, pets or winter. We would like parent volunteers to join in the play and help the children to develop their language skills by chatting to them about what they are doing.

Parents who volunteer to help with Aistear will be sent an e-mail  letting them know of the days/ times that we would like help. If you are available for any of those sessions, you can reply to the e-mail. Each Aistear session lasts about 45 minutes, and you don’t have to have a child in infants to volunteer to help out.

We would really welcome parent volunteers to help . If you would like to get involved, please e-mail to let me know.

Thanking you,

Kay Morrissey
