1st Class – Claire

 First Class Homework 18-22nd December

There is no homework this week!

We will be having a class party on Friday so the children can bring in some treats for this if you wish.

We are sending home a questionnaire for parents to complete this week. This is part of our Green Schools’ environmental audit. We would appreciate it if you could fill it out and give it to your child to return to school. This questionnaire is anonymous so you do not need to write your name on it. Thank you for your help with this.

Lunches

Dear parents,

There have a lot of lunch and drink spillages over the past 2 weeks. Almost every day at least one drink/ yoghurt/ lunch has leaked or spilled in bags and on the floor! Could I please ask that you ensure your child’s lunch (including yoghurts/ yoghurt drinks) are in a lunchbox that is securely closed, and that they have a drink bottle that is leak proof and properly closed, as it is taking a considerable amount of teaching time each day to clean up the mess.

Many thanks for your help with this.

Kind regards,

Claire

    First Class Homework:

December 11th – 15th 2017

Every Evening:

  • Practice the words of the songs Suzy Snowflake, Step Back Baby, Zumba Zumba, Fáilte Isteach, An Nollaig and the poems The Snowman, Sneachta Sneachta.  The words of the songs are on the children’s lyric’s sheets which they will bring home this week and poems are stuck in the back of their copy books (please keep in homework folder and send in every day for rehearsals).
  • If your child has a speaking part in our winter concert, please practice their line(s), encouraging them to speak loudly and clearly without looking at their notes.
  • There will be one Stay Safe worksheet to complete each evening. Please only complete the worksheet that is specified for each evening as it relates directly to work covered in class that day. Last week a number of children completed their Stay Safe worksheets incorrectly because they were done before the work was covered in class.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Dear Parents,

By law parents / guardians must give a written note of explanation to their teacher following their child’s absence. We are required to keep these notes and submit them to the Education Welfare Officer if requested. If your child has missed a day of school recently and you have not sent in a written note (even if you have told me verbally, we still need it in writing), could you please write such a note for your child and ask them to give it to me in class?

Thank you very much,

Claire

SWIMMING 2017/18

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Swimming classes for 1st Class A & B will commence on Monday the 6th of November next. Lessons take place at Portlaoise Leisure Centre every week for 7 weeks during the school day, (breaking for School Holidays).

Time: 9.30- 10.15am Children will come to school as normal at 8.30am and we will get a bus to and from the swimming pool.

If you have not already done so, please complete and return your child’s Consent Form (sent home a few weeks ago) along with the fee of €35.00 to the school office immediately as children with outstanding fees or consent forms will not be able to come swimming.  (Please note if you have paid the school costs in full then the fee of €35.00 was included in this).

Classes must be paid for in advance and are a compulsory part of the school curriculum.

In order to maximize your child’s enjoyment of and development in swimming lessons please ensure the following;

  • Wear suitable clothing on swim days. Tracksuit and trainers should be worn to allow for easy changing before and after swimming.
  • Bring a small gear bag containing a towel, a swimming cap, a small drink and a plastic bag for wet gear. (Tip: Pack gear the night before!)
  • If your child uses arm-bands please ensure they are ready to use or that your child can inflate by themselves.
  • In preparation for swimming please allow children to practice drying and changing their clothes at home as teachers will not be available to help children change gear.

If your child is unable to dress themselves, please meet us at the swimming pool on the day to help them as teachers will not be able to help children dress. Please let the class teacher know in advance if you will be meeting us at the pool.

Thank you.

Dear parents,

If your child has missed a day of school could you please ensure you have sent in a note explaining the reason for the absence to your child’s class teacher. Alternatively you can fill out the online absence form on the school website. We are required by law to have a written explanation of all school absences.

Dear Parents,

Please follow the L.S.C.W.C. (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check) layout in your child’s copy book by ruling their copy each night. I have done it for the first night as an example. It is very important that your child practises their addition tables aloud every night. Your child should know the answer without counting. Each Thursday evening please ensure that your child revises all the spellings and tables covered that week for an in-class test on Friday. Note to parents which children brought home on 4/9/17

Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s),

My name is Claire Romito and I will be your child’s class teacher this year. I would like to invite you to an introductory meeting for all of the parents in your child’s class on Thursday 7th September from 8.30-9am in my classroom. This will be an opportunity for me to explain the routines/ important dates/ homework etc. for the year, and for you to ask any questions that you may have. It would be great to see as many parents as possible in attendance so that we can plan to work together and ensure your child gets as much as possible out of the year.  On Thursday, the children will line up as normal in the Infant yard, and you may accompany your child into the classroom.

I have enclosed your child’s homework for the week. Please only complete what has been assigned for a particular day each evening. While it may be tempting to do all of the homework in one night to get it out of the way for the week, children do not get the most out of homework by doing this. It is more beneficial to do a little each evening while your child is attentive, as oppose to doing it all at once. Furthermore, homework given revises work that has been covered in school that day and if you skip ahead, you child may not have covered the material in class yet.

Starting from next week the homework will be made available on the school website each week. From the “students” tab, select “class news”, then “1st Class Claire”. This is to cut down on printing and paper waste as our school is a Green School. If you do not have internet access and need a printed copy of the homework each week, please let me know by sending a note in to school this week. Shared reading will also be given for homework from next week and I will explain about the homework in more detail at the meeting on Thursday.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year.

Kind regards,

Claire Romito
